Phil Rivers (soccer)
Philip Rivers (born January 19, 1988 in Woodbridge, Ontario) is a Canadian soccer player who currently plays for the North York Astros in the Canadian Soccer League.
Playing career
In 2008, Rivers began his professional career by signing with the Italia Shooters, where he played a total of 17 matches. Throughout the season Rivers helped the Shooters win their second International Division title. In the playoff run he contributed helping the Shooters advance to the semifinals, but unfortunately the Shooters were defeated by eventual champions Serbian White Eagles in the semi-final match.
The following season Rivers would sign with the Serbian White Eagles. During his short tenure with the club he faced stiff competition with already well established midfielders, which caused Rivers to only appear in one single match in a White Eagles uniform. Midway through the CSL 2009 season Rivers was transferred to the North York Astros. He was among the new additional signings done by Astros head coach Vladimir Klinovsky midway through the season. He made his Astros debut on August 22, 2009 against London City. The Astros would end up finishing second last in the National Division, eight points behind the final playoff spot.
