Josué Árias

Josué Árias (born on 17 June 1991 in Montreal) is a Costa Rican-Canadian soccer player who currently plays for North York Astros in the Canadian Soccer League.

Career

Árias began playing soccer at the youth level with Woodbridge Soccer Club in Vaughan. In August of 2008 he was spotted by then the North York Astros head coach Rafael Carbajal, and was offered a contract from the Astros. In the earlier half of his tenure with the club Árias mostly appeared in reserve matches for the Astros second squad. As Árias developed he began to appear in more first team matches and was able to establish a successful rookie season for himself. Throughout the 2008 season Árias appeared in 8 season games; mostly as a substitute and managed to score his first professional goal on August 25, 2008 in a 5-1 thrashing of St. Catharines Wolves. Árias also helped the Astros set an all time record for most points and wins in a season. But unfortunately during their playoff run the Astros were eliminated by the Serbian White Eagles in the quarterfinal match, with the game ending 2-1 in favor of the White Eagles.

On February 23, 2009 the Astros re-signed Árias for the CSL 2009 season. He was one of the seven only returning veterans to be re-signed by the newly appointed Astros head coach Ugur Cimen. Throughout the season Árias had limited appearances under Cimen; including under his successor Vladimir Klinovsky, who replaced Cimen on June 29, 2009. In total he appeared in only 5 matches. Unfortunately the Astros failed to achieve their repeat of last seasons success on the field, and finished second last in the National Division.

International Career

He is in call up for the Canada U-20 men's national soccer team camp in December or November 2009.
