History

Founded by former Disney executives, CEIVA was the first company to invent and market digital photo frames, starting with a 5.5-inch model. Subsequent products have included 7 and 8-inch digital photo frames. In addition to digital photo frames, CEIVA provides content-delivery services through a subscription called PicturePlan. U.S. Patent No. 6,442,573 entitled “Method and Apparatus for Distributing Picture Mail to a Frame Device Community” was granted to CEIVA in 2002.

Origin of Name

The name CEIVA dates back to the company’s founding in 2000. While commonly mispronounced, the correct pronunciation of the name is /sēvə/. It’s been speculated that CEIVA is short for “receiver.” CEIVA originally called their product Digital Photo Receivers.

Partnerships

2001 CEIVA partnered with Polaroid to manufacture the Polaroid PhotoMAX Digital Picture Frame and provide photo-sharing services.

2008 CEIVA partnered with Whirlpool to offer an 8-inch digital photo frame with centralpark connection in Whirlpool refrigerators.
