M80 (agency)
M80 is a provider of social media marketing and digital publicity with offices in Los Angeles and New York. Founded in 1998 by Dave Neupert, the agency started as a word-of-mouth marketing agency in Silver Lake and built its success largely by promoting products that fans were eager to embrace, such as bands and television shows with cult followings.
M80 is a founding member of the Word Of Mouth Marketing Association, establishing an official trade association to set ethical standards, standardized terms, and best practices for other marketing agencies to follow. Partners Dave Neupert, Todd Steinman and Jeff Semones are frequent speakers at trade conferences and events, promoting ethics, strategies, and measurement of buzz marketing.
In June 2006, M80 was acquired by WPP Group.
M80 also manages a small in-house record label that has released music by the Cambodian psych-pop band Dengue Fever.
