University Baptist Church - Manila, Philippines
University Baptist Church is a Southern Baptist Church located in the heart of University Belt in Metro Manila.
History
University Baptist Church began as a student work extension in 1966. A handful of believers requested Rev. Bill Wakefield, the fist Baptist Student Union (BSU) Director to conduct Sunday worship services for them. Rev. Henry Cabalang became the BSU Director in 1967 after few foreigners led the work. He resigned to work as full-time pastor of UBC in 1972. The church established an aggressive ministry in evangelism, missions, and discipleship. Leaders were trained. Pastors, workers, missionaries were produced. Mission churches sprouted in nearby provinces and in Metro Manila until Rev. Cabalang resigned in 1993.
Other senior pastors after Rev. Cabalang included Rev. Cesar DELOS Santos (93-96); Missionary Danny Johnson –OIC (1996); Rev. Dan Santiago (97-98); and Rev. Armand M. Canoy (1999-present).
Today, UBC shifted to Purpose driven ministry–worship, service, missions, discipleship, and fellowship. Each purpose is led by a pastor/minister . UBC focuses on establishing student centers near university. Presently, two Youth Life Student Center operate in Morayta (University Belt), and in Lagro in front of Fatima University.
