Pantai Leka

Pantai Leka is a beach and bird sanctuary in Parit Jawa, AbOUT 10 kilometres from Muar, in Johor, Malaysia.

A local Parit Jawa Band named Kumpulan Tunas Baru Hiburan Party organized in 1957 Guitar Player's by the name PAK SAMAD NAMED PANTAI LEKA back in 1959 due to his complacency while playing guitar in front of the beach at Parit Jawa Muar. He named the place by writing on a piece of plank PANTAI LEKA (Complacent Beach). This information was retrieved from Hj Rauzan Hj Hamdan a 82 year old ex-Pt Jawa community leader by Ir Hj Ahmad Mustaffa Mustaal Hj Abdullah during a visit in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah early 2009.

Pantai Leka; 20ha mudflat beach provides food and shelter for migratory birds. Conservation of mangrove forests in these areas are paramount in protecting these rare species . The uncontrolled [...] of mangrove trees should be avoided in the areas as it would destroy the birds' habitat.

Five types of migratory birds were sighted for the first time in 30 years at Pantai Leka, Parit Jawa Muar Johor as early as in 2001. They were the Asian Dowitcher (Limnodromus semipalmatu), Chinese Egret (Egretta eulophotes), Grey-tailed Tattler (Heteroscelus brevipes), Great Knot (Calidris tenuirostris) and the Bar-tailed Godwit (Limosa lapponica).
