Oliver Haiste
Oliver Haiste (Reuters Business Profiles) is non executive director of the engineering company Haiste International (Formely Haiste Ltd) famed for the major contract case Birse Construction v Haiste Ltd which went to the Court of Appeal (Queen's Bench Division).
Although Oliver Haiste is not involved in the direct management of the group, after his recent appointment the subsidiary has continued developing its long-standing interests in Middle East particularly Iraq and Jordan.
Haiste International has always attracted a fair amount of parliamentary attention with regards to large engineering contracts it won during the reign of Saddam Hussein. 1
Although initially successful, winning many contracts within the water engineering sector, the company suffered losses as the Iran-Iraq war escalated. As the first Gulf War approached in 1991 the Haiste Group withdrew the majority of its personnel.
The Haiste Group (Haiste International and Haiste Mechanical) is now incorporated with the Danish engineering conglomerate Carl Bro Group.
His father, John Haiste, was former director of the Haiste Group.
