The FreeNation Foundation has a stated end goal of the acquisition or creation of land, ideally to become a sovereign, world-recognized country.
Mission Statement
“To establish, through science, reason and cooperation, an ecologically sustainable society where the principle of freedom is paramount.”
History
The FreeNation project started after an effort by torrent tracker The Pirate Bay to purchase the man-made island of Sealand for $200 million, and started taking donations from the online community towards that end. The prospect of the acquisition of Sealand became unrealistic due to financial limitations, as well as a shift in interest for the online community and ThePirateBay. Sealand, while having the benefit of a degree of established respect as a sovereign nation, was too small and aesthetically displeasing to support such a goal. ThePirateBay, backed by their supporters in the online community, started seeking out other options, saying if they did not receive enough to buy Sealand, that they would "try to buy another small island somewhere and claim it as our own country".
The FreeNation project is a separate entity from The Pirate Bay and both have separate goals. The FreeNation mission is not related except in a general way to The Pirate Bay.
FreeNation has set its sights primarily on Ile de Caille, an island of Grenada, which is currently on the market for $18 million. They are keeping their options open, however, should a more suitable choice be discovered.

This is a timeline of fictional events in the Wing Commander computer game series. The date system used is the Terran Confederation standard. The whole number refers to the year (which is the same as in the Gregorian calendar), and the decimal refers to the number of the day within the year. For example, 1999.227 corresponds to 15 August 1999.
Timeline
2629
Penetration of Terran Confederation exploration and colonization ships into the Vega Sector increases.
*2629.105 - Exploration ship TCS Iason encounters a spacecraft of unknown origin, later discovered to be KIS K'rath'kan. Commander Jedora Andropolos beams the standard wideband non-verbal greeting designed by the Committee for Interaction with Alien Intelligences. However, the K'rath'kan detects the radiation from the greeting as an attempt to disable their shields, and open fire on the Iason, destroying it and all hands.
2634
The Terran Confederation Congress unanimously decide to enforce a non-aggression policy with the Kilrathi, but will respond with military reprisal if broken.
*2634.186 - War is formally declared by the Terran Confederation on the Empire of Kilrah for countless acts of piracy and unwarranted assault.
*2634.228 - Confederation cryptographer Ches M. Penney partially decodes a Kilrathi cipher. The intercepted message refers to a punitive strike being launched against the Confederation, starting with the colony on McAuliffe and the space station Alexandria in orbit around it. Confederation High Command launches a counter-offensive, twice the size of the anticipated enemy fleet, in order to reach McAuliffe first and ambush the attackers.
*2634.235 - The Kilrathi fleet reaches McAuliffe. However, the incomplete translation of the intercepted message had underestimated the size of the Kilrathi offensive. In several days of bloody combat, the Terran fleet is all but obliterated, while leaving a still-sizeable force of functional Kilrathi spacecraft. But the Kilrathi, momentarily daunted by the ferocity of the Terran resistance, turn back to regroup and repair. Thus, the first large-scale Terran-Kilrathi engagement ends with the Kilrathi spearhead momentarily broken.
2639-2653
*2639.033 - The Enyo Engagement begins. Kilrathi occupation forces land on the human-occupied world Enyo, and take 250,000 humans prisoner. As well, Kilrathi forces occupy McAuliffe, with another quarter million human hostages under orbital guns, and await Terran reprisals. A tactical situation made difficult by the presence of so many hostages.
*2642 - The Confederation Military Command authorizes design of the Bengal-class heavy space carrier line. Trojan Four Spaceyards wins the assignment to build the new line of carriers.
*2644 - The newly-launched TCS Tiger's Claw finds itself in the path of a surprise Kilrathi invasion force on its shakeground cruise, carrying just a minimal spacecrew and an under-experienced command. However, due to the ship's unexpected presence, clever tactics on the part of the command crew, and performance above and beyond the call of duty by the spacecrews, the superior Kilrathi force is routed. Shortly thereafter, Tiger's Claw is given permanent assignment in Vega Sector.
*2644 - Terran ground forces launching an attack on a fortified Kilrathi colonial position are attacked by unexpected Kilrathi fighter-craft support. The Terrans quickly reform and retreat into Terran space, their lightly-armed transports pursued by Kilrathi warships. TCS Tiger's Claw is detached from its previous station and sent to the Terran fleet's path.
Tiger's Claw fights a delaying action, subsequently called Custer's Carnival, to allow the Terran fleet time to reach Terran-controlled space. Though swarmed and badly damaged by Kilrathi fighter-craft, the carrier occupies the Kilrathi forces until the Terran fleet reaches safety. Though three-quarters of it engines are destroyed, and half of its pilots are listed as casualties, the Tiger's Claw is able to limp back into Terran space.
Subsequently, two Gold Stars and numerous other medals are awarded to Tiger's Claw personnel, and the carrier spends six months in spacedock being repaired and refitted.
*2645 - The second Bengal-class space carrier, the TCS Kipling, is launched. Owing to design modifications, the Kipling and all subsequent Bengals are 10 meters shorter and several tons less massive than the Tiger's Claw, making the Tiger's Claw the biggest space carrier in its class.
*2653 - The Terran Confederation pledges to defend Firekkans until 2655, culminating in the Sivar ceremony. There, the TCS Tiger's Claw, TCS Austin and other ships defend against and destroy a massive invading fleet with Thrakhath and his Drakhai. Ralgha nar Hhallas defects during this period. Confederation Marines kill Kilrathi priestesses who land on Firekka for the ceremony.
