Permia Sensing is registered in the United Kingdom as a private limited company, incorporated on 27 January 2021. It has been described in media coverage as a spin-out from Imperial College London.

Funding
In March 2023, the company announced a £250,000 pre-seed investment led by Jenson Funding Partners. In July 2024, it reported a further £150,000 investment from the British Design Fund.

In 2025, Permia Sensing was reported as receiving an Innovate UK Climate-Smart Agriculture Partnership Innovation Award for work related to monitoring palm weevils in Ghanaian plantations. In January 2026, the company was announced as one of the winners of the UAE FoodTech Challenge 2026.
