Young Leek

Young Leek was born Talik Deshawn Baker in Baltimore, Maryland on June 3, 1990.

Career

The young rapper has had songs produced by Rodney Jerkins (Destiny’s Child, Brandy), who he met as a ten year old through a family connection.

The middle child of three siblings Baker was raised primarily by his mother. His father sang as a hobby and managed some local acts in Atlantic City, New Jersey where Baker was born.

Baker started pursuing a musical career in 2005 after moving to Baltimore to live with his father, who arranged an introduction with K-Swift (who now co manages Leek) and together they cooked up an early version of "Jiggle It". The song became popular in local nightclubs and that caught the attention of Baltimore producers Mike Millz & Big Kuntre of Stay Gettin' Productions (Cam'ron, Kay Slay) who signed Baker to their company, Stay Gettin' Entertainment (S.G.E.).

Young Leek was signed to Def Jam records in late 2006 as part of a resurgence in popularity of Baltimore hip hop music. However, like both Comp and Bossman before him, Baker was dropped from Def Jam in late 2007 after failing to deliver any mainstream hits.
