Yateesh M. Acharya

Yateesh M. Acharya is a rising star of The INDIAN MusicAL firmament. He has emerged as an impressionable Ghazal and Bhajan singer of recent times. Classically trained, with over three decades in the field of music, Yateesh’s repertoire also includes the traditional Thumari, Dadra and Sufi songs and the earthly Mand and Folk songs. Yateesh has not only regaled music lovers all over India & abroad through his concerts but has also risen admirably to the challenge of presenting quality music through his albums, which are commercial successes too.

Early life

Born to a musically inclined family in Rajasthan, Yateesh took early lessons in classical music from Pt Mahendra Dixit and Pt J. S. Hada ,Pt Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Ustad Hifzul Kabir (Katani), Ustad Sarwat Hussain Khan (Bhopal), Late Ustad Rahat Ali Khan (Gorakhpur),Ustad Zameer Ahmed Khan and Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan (Delhi).

His passion for Ghazals was stoked during his teens by the inimitable renditions of Ustad Mehdi Hassan and Ustad Hussain Bux Gullo inspiring him to put-in seven hours of practice everyday and perfect his ‘Urdu’ diction to such heights that wowed over the discerning audience of Hyderabad, the ‘Urdu’ Heartland.

In recent times Yateesh has lent his voice to several successful South Indian Films dubbed in Hindi, such as, Raja Harishchandra, Ram-Katha, Paduka Pattabhishekam, Navgrah Naykal, Moudri Karan, Om Ganeshay Namah,Soorya Putram etc. and few T.V Serials like "Tadap" and “Sainik” besides composing music for various Ghazal, Bhajan Albums , Jingles and Documentary Films.

Yateesh, the son of renowned Poet Shri B. M. ‘Madhur’, grew up in Kota (Rajasthan) and has a Masters in Computer Application.

Career

Yateesh Acharya is associated with All India Radio (AIR), also known as Akashvani (Devnagri:आकाशवाणी, ākāshavānī), since late 80s and is a Grade - A singer with them.

Awards

Yateesh bagged the top prize in the All-India Begum Akhtar competition in 1983-84. Firaq Gorakhpuri Award 1998, Ustad Mehdi Hassan Night Award 1999, Best Ghazal singer Award 2004. Sur Sangam award 2005, Swar Dharohar Best upcoming Ghazal Singer Award 2007
