XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam

The XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam (Traditional Chinese: 二頭龍; Simplified Chinese: 二头龙, pinyin: èr tóu lóng) is a gundam type mobile suit from the fictional anime and manga series Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam

When the XXXG-01S Shenlong Gundam proved incapable of space combat, it was badly damaged during its attack on OZ's Space Fortress Barge and was barely able to escape. It was eventually caught and it's pilot Wufei Chang was arrested after a failed attack on Colonel Tsuberov, OZ's Chief Engineer. After the remains were taken to OZ's Lunar Base, the five Gundam Scientists who were also being held prisoner there were secretly planning to rebuild and upgrade the Shenlong and XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe in secret.

The result is the XXXG-01S2 Altron Gundam. The upgrades are that the Dragon Fang and Flamethrowers have been multiplied and now both arms are equipped with them. A new addition is a double barrel beam cannon which is crafted in the form of a dragon-like stinger tail; this can be used for additional long range fire and to help protect the Altron's backside. The Shenlong's Beam Glaive has also been replaced with an extendable Twin Beam Trident. The Vulcan Guns are the only weapon that haven't been modified, and Shenlong shield was retained as well. The Altron also has the addition of wing binders, thruster-like fins to help give it the mobility needed to fight in space. Like its predecessor Wufei preferred to address the Altron as Nataku in memory of Wufei's deceased wife Meilan.

The difference in the OVA version is that the Altron's appearance and Dragon Fang weapons were altered to make it look more like a real dragon. Some minor perfomace differences with the OVA version are that the Dragon Fangs are more flexible and the wing binders are replaced with a vernier thruster for the OVA version of the Altron to be able to fight in space. The Flamethrowers, shield, and the Beam Cannon were the only weapons removed from the OVA version. This Altron Custom version of the suit is often referred to as the "Gundam Nataku" by fans due to Bandai's model kits referring to the OVA version as such rather than Altron.

Altron is pronounced as Double-headed (or Two-Headed) Dragon in Chinese.

History

During Tsuberov's rebellion against Lady Une, he tried to kill both Wufei and the Gundam Deathscythe's pilot Duo Maxwell by [...] off their air supply. After being freed by Lady Une, Wufei escaped in his incomplete Altron and returned to his home colony where the Long Clan was able to make the remaining adjustments to complete the Altron.

After the death of his Clan, Wufei fought against Zechs Merquise who was now piloting the XXXG-00W0 Wing Gundam Zero. Wufei then used the Altron to work on bringing down all aggressive forces in space, he first attacked the Lunar Base during the White Fang uprising and was able to kill Tsuberov. After turning down an offer from Lucrezia Noin to join the cause of uniting the Gundam pilots together, he tried to destroy Libra, but the Altron was badly damaged from Libra's immense firepower. After being rescued by Heero Yuy and Sally Po, the Altron was taken to Peacemillion and repaired as Wufei now understood that he needed to work with the other Gundam pilots to accomplish his goal.

The Altron became part of Peacemillions force and was used against the White Fang troops. During the final battle Wufei separated from the others to challenge OZ's leader Treize Khushrenada to another duel. Wufei chose to fight Treize fairly and not use the Altron's full capabilities. However, Wufei did not expect for Trieze to allow him to win, when Treize allowed for the Altron's Twin Beam Trident to destroy his OZ-00MS2 Tallgeese II unit.

In Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, Wufei chose not to dispose of his Gundam with the others and instead placed the Altron and himself as part of the Mariemaia Army, feeling that he could not live in a world of peace. Wufei ended up challenging Heero Yuy twice. The first time, the Altron easily outperformed the outdated OZ-06MS Leo that Heero was piloting. The second time, when Heero was using the Wing Zero, Heero did not fight at his best, as he was trying to help Wufei realize that the same mistakes of the past could be repeated if Mariemaia were allowed to win. After observing the protesters outside of Brussels, Wufei was able to realize that he could live in a world of peace. After the battle the Altron was self-detonated by Wufei, quoting, "Nataku may you rest in peace".
