History

During the bear market that began in 2008 and accompanied the economic recession, "passive" investment managers using the traditional buy and hold investment strategy GeneRally sustained heavy losses to their portfolios. Many active managers, who typically use a combination of fundamental analysis and technical analysis to forecast specific market trends, advised their clients to sell off before major losses took place.

Active managers are committed to risk management and believe it is important to sell off when signs point to an approaching bear market. Their analysis provides strong indications for when it is time to buy and sell. Like many active management firms, Wenning Investments uses proprietary investment strategies, as well as tools such as a stop loss, target prices, and alerts to determine when to buy and sell various securities.

Brenda P. Wenning, who had previously used the buy and hold investment strategy, decided after a preceding bear market that active management was a better alternative for her clients. She founded Wenning Investments, LLC in May 2008.

Before founding Wenning Investments, Wenning co-founded Capital Advisors, LLC, And Co-managed the firm’s investment strategies. She has served as Vice President and Investment Officer for First Financial Trust, N.A. in Newton, Massachusetts, where she managed portfolios for high-net-worth families, foundations, and corporations. Wenning has also served as a portfolio manager and analyst with Gannett, Welsh & Kotler, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts, and was a registered associate with Kidder, Peabody & Company.
