Veteran's Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania'''
Our Mission
Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania helps veterans address their needs by cultivating opportunities and developing options for their growth in the community. Veterans Leadership Program does this by providing assistance to unemployed, underemployed, and homeless veterans and their immediate families.
VLP History
In 1982, a group of Vietnam Veterans joined together to meet a need. Mills were closing, manufacturing jobs were disappearing, and many veterans were out of work and out of hope. The original concept was to provide job placement and training for Vietnam veterans who were displaced in a changing economy. At that time, none of VLP's founders imagined that the agency would still be meeting that need today. But here we are. It is the mission of VLP to bring renewed strength and self-reliance to all veterans and their family members, who have selflessly served our nation. With over 300,000 veterans residing in Southwestern Pennsylvania, this region has the second highest per capita concentration of veterans in the United States. Originally known as Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program, in 2005 the agency changed its name to Veterans Leadership Program to reflect service to all veterans regardless of the era in which they served. The historic Southside district of Pittsburgh became VLP's new home in August 2005. Conveniently located just two blocks from the Birmingham Bridge and a short walk to The SouthSide Works shopping district, the new office building has ample free parking and is located on major bus lines. The VLP Johnstown office is located within the Hiram G. Andrews Center located on Goucher Street in Johnstown. Currently veterans receive services at our Carson Street
