History
The helpline 1947 was launched by UIDAI soon after the nationwide rollout of the Aadhaar program to provide centralized customer support. Initially available only during business hours, it was later expanded to a 24×7 toll-free service accessible across all telecom operators.
Purpose
The helpline 1947 assists users with:
- Aadhaar Enrolment: Locating nearby enrolment centers, documentation guidance.
- Update/Correction: Address, phone number, and biometric update queries.
- Status Tracking: Enrolment and update status via SRN or URN.
- e-Aadhaar Download & Password Help.
- Complaint Redressal: Escalation of unresolved Aadhaar service issues.
- Lock/Unlock Biometrics: Information on UIDAI’s security features.
Operation
The helpline is managed by the Unique Identification Authority of India under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Citizens can call 1947 from anywhere in India, and the service is available in English, Hindi, and several regional languages.
The contact centre also provides SMS-based and IVR self-service options, along with live-agent support for complex cases.
