TuxFamily
TuxFamily is a free project hosting service for Open Source software projects.
History
TuxFamily was established in 1999 by Julien Ducros to create a software hosting service accommodate his friends, then quickly expanded to provide accommodation to all the free projects May Be needed. In December 2001, TuxFamily became a legal organization in order to receive contributions and donations allowing its development.
In January 2004, TuxFamily was a victim of software piracy that lead to questioning on the part of administrators on the management and continuation of the service. Some administrators left the team in response to the chaos.
TuxFamily remained closed for a year, and administrators, remaining or new, decided to revive the service following changes: new platform and new housing association, among others. The reopening took place in January 2005.
Server Software
The server runs VHFFS (Virtual Hosting For Free Software), a form of server management software written in Perl.
