Tpad
Tpad is the name of a peer-to-peer VoIP network and of a proprietary freeware soft phone for that network.
Tpad was founded in 2006 by private investment and has offices in the UK and UAE. Unlike its competitor network Skype, the Tpad network uses open standards for call management, Session Initiation Protocol and the client is proprietary/closed source software.
Since Tpad is based on SIP, this allows Tpad users to make IP to IP calls to other Tpad users and as this avoids the phone system all calls are free of charge.
The Tpad soft phone also has additional features such as interoperability with other systems and services via the SIP standard, call forwarding to PSTN, free SIP number and free voicemail to email. Tpad also allows users to make calls to the PSTN network to any country in the work via any SIP compatible device.
In 2008, Tpad launched a new service WiFi Mobile. that will allow VoIP calls from Nokia WiFi enabled mobiles using the in-built SIP software developed by Nokia.
