Timeline of Pirates of the Caribbean Films

The following is a timeline concerning the events that occur in the universe of the Pirates of the Caribbean films, revealed either during the films or elsewhere. Currently, only two of the three films have been released, so the information may change over time.

Prior to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

12 years before PotC 1

Jack Sparrow was dispatched by Lord Cutler Beckett to deliver cargo from the East India Trading Company.Jack was probably around 28 years old when he was working for EITC. Jack discovered the cargo was slaves, and returned them back to Africa. Beckett's men burned Jack's ship, the Wicked Wench, and BRANDed Jack a pirate. Later, Jack made a pact with Davy Jones. Jones raised the wrecked ship, which Jack rechristened the Black Pearl. In exchange, Jack would captain his ship for 13 years, and then relinquish his soul to Davy Jones or find a way to otherwise pay his debt.

10 years before PotC 1

• Jack Sparrow's First Mate Barbossa lead a mutiny and marrooned Jack on an island with nothing but his magic compass, a pistol with a single shot, and his beloved hat.
• Jack was marrooned at the age of 30.
• Barbossa and his crew of miscreants become cursed upon taking the Aztec treasure on Isla de Muerta.
• "Bootstrap Bill" Turner, the only crew member who defended Jack during the mutiny, sent a piece of the treasure to England to his wife and child, as punishment to the rest of the crew for the mutiny. He was summarily thrown overboard, strapped to a cannon.

8 years before PotC 1

• Jack Sparrow is now 32 making him 20 years older than Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann who were currently 12 years old, 8 years prior to PotC 1.
• Elizabeth Swann and her father sailed from England to Port Royal. Weatherby Swann, had recently been appointed governor. During this voyage, they rescued a young Will Turner, who was found floating atop wreckage, the lone survivor of a pirate attack.
