Those Aren't Muskets!
Those Aren't Muskets! is a sketch comedy group based in Los Angeles, California. The group consists of Michael Swaim, Abe Epperson, Brian Kelly, Ryan Ricketts, Lara Pickle and Brett Rader, though various other actors also take part in the production of their sketches.
Those Aren't Muskets! started their work in 2007, and have since been featured on Cracked, Funny or Die, CollegeHumor, and various other sites. They have also been interviewed on Veoh and G4tv.
History
Two students, Michael Swaim (a Theater Major) and Abe Epperson (an Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Major), both sophomores at the University of California, San Diego, met each other while working on the school's satirical newspaper, The Muir Quarterly.
After graduation, both Swaim and Epperson decided that they wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment business. After taking up a camera, some computer editing software, and recruiting a few friends from UCSD, Those Aren't Muskets! were born. From there, Those Aren't Muskets! (TAM! or Muskets! for short) began producing their own sketches on YouTube and on their own site. Their name comes from a quote from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
However, they didn't develop a wide following until the release of their video "Internet Party". The sketch was featured on the front page of Youtube and Digg, ultimately earning over 10,000 Diggs and millions of views cumulatively.
Shortly after its release, Cracked.com paid TAM! for a 30 day exclusive right to host the video "Internet Party" on their site, earning the troupe their first payment for their work.
Current Events
Currently, Cracked is the official home of the troupe's videos upon their release.
TAM! has since produced various sketches and works of writing. Over the summer of 2008, TAM! placed in the top ten for Youtube's second Sketchies contest, and placed second in the Filmclick Online Film Festival.
In addition, Michael Swaim hosts an online T.V. show called Cracked TV and also writes a blog and various articles for Cracked.com. He has also had works published on mcsweeneys.net and yankeepotroast.org. Meanwhile, Abe Epperson is currently in his first year at University of Southern California Film School, where he is pursuing a degree in Production while continuing his work with Muskets!
Those Aren't Muskets! has been officially recognized as a sketch comedy troupe by Cracked.com, Collegehumor.com, G4tv, and Veoh.
