TheBeehive.org

TheBeehive.org (The Beehive) is a website intended to connect low-income people to information and resources on a variety of important subjects: health, jobs, money, schools, and family. The Beehive is a self-help web portal that purports to help users find accessible, culturally diverse, multilingual content. The Beehive is localized for more than 40 cities in the United States and around the world .

Content

The Beehive includes sections on money, health & fitness, school (including homework help), jobs & careers, family, housing & homeownership, computer support, emergencies, and insurance. Fast Company magazine described the Beehive this way:

Organized around six different categories -- money, health, school, jobs, family, and lifestyle -- the Beehive provides basic but important information. According to [One Economy CEO Rey] Ramsey, the thinking behind the site is as straightforward as the site itself. "People with low incomes are often socially and economically isolated," he says. "They don't have access to the same tools, information, and networks that a lot of us take for granted. Answers to questions such as 'How do I write a check?' and 'Why do I need health insurance?' aren't obvious. If you're not around people who have insurance, how do you know?"

Disaster & Emergency Help

The Beehive includes the Southern California Wildfire Help Center (SoCalHelp.org) and the Katrina Help Center. The Katrina Help Center is a 2006 Webby award winner .
