Susana Sori

Susana Sori was born in Camaguey, Cuba, in 1949. Between 1961-1975 she resided in Chicago, Illinois (1975-1976) / Miami, Florida (1976 1983) / Marrakesh, Morocco (1984). Since 1985 she has resided alternately in Miami, Florida and in Marrakesh, Morocco. She develops the Drawing, Engraving and Sculpture.

Between 1971-1972 she studied Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), in the Michigan State University. In 1971 she Graduated of Graphic Arts, for the Kendall School of Design, Grand Rapids, Michigan. And in 1981 she studied a Engraving Workshop, in the Florida International University, in Miami, Florida.

Individual Exhibitions

Among her must important personal exhibitions we can mention in 1982 Lithographs, in the The Gallery at 24, in Miami, Florida. And in 1989 she presented Susana Sori. Between Seen and Seen, in The Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art. MOCHA, in New York City.

Collective Exhibitions

She was part in relevant collective exhibitions like 5th Biennial of Painters and Printmakers Exhibition. Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids, Michigan, in 1971. In 1983 she participated in the Sexta Bienal de San Juan del Grabado Latinoamericano, in the Arsenal de la Marina, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In 1984 she was one of the selected artists to participated in The 10th. International Independent Exhibition of Prints in Kanagawa'84, in the Kanagawa Prefectural Gallery, in Kanagawa, Japan. She was also included in The Latin American Graphic Arts Biennial, in the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art (MOCHA), in New York City, in 1986. And in 1995 some of her works were selected to conform To Collect, Conserve, Exhibit, and Interpret the Visual Arts Produced by Artists of Cuban Heritage, The New Collection I, in the Museo Cubano de Arte y Cultura, in Miami, Florida.

Awards

In 1981 and 1982 she obtained the Cintas Foundation Fellowship (painting and engraving), in New York City.

Collections

Her works can be found formed part of the important collections such as Siddha Foundation, in Ganeshpuri, India. In the United States her works can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, and in the Cintas Foundation, both in New York City.
