Student Alliance of Gay Engineers

The Student Alliance of Gay Engineers (SAGE) is a student group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-gender, queer and ally undergraduate and graduate students in the field of engineering, and similar majors. SAGE's mission is to provide networking, professional development, and social activities for undergraduate and graduate LGBTQ and ally students in the fields of engineering, science, technology and math.

History

SAGE was founded in December 2007 at the University of Michigan, with its first meeting held in January 2008 . It has subsequently expanded to the University of Colorado at Boulder in the fall of 2009.

In the winter term of 2009, SAGE organized and put on the first North Campus LGBT Pride Week at the University of Michigan. This event raised awareness of the LGBTQ presence in the engineering community. In the past SAGE has hosted speakers from both industry and academia to discuss issues facing LGBTQ engineers, in addition to hosting round table discussions on topics such as diversity in engineering (as part of Engineer's Week), and the inclusion of LGBTQ related activities on resumes.
