The Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Community Center of Metropolitan St. Louis

The mission of The Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Community Center of Metropolitan St. Louis is to provide service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and ally community of St. Louis and its surrounding areas through education, outreach, healthy living and community building.

Building Plans

Although the organization does not have a physical location, their plans are to have a facility with a library, computer area, community calendar, website, meeting rooms, and a lounge "in an effort to create a safe and supportive as well as positive environment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community in the metropolitan St. Louis area." The organization indicates that it will staff the facility with both full-time and volunteer staff members.

The organization's plans are to service the LGBT community through programming includes conversation groups, workshops, networking sessions, projects, and events.

The organization also has a website that contains more information: http://www.findmycenter.com. The name of the website originated from an idea that combines the metaphysical aspects of "centering" with the creation of a hub within the St. Louis LGBT community.

How It Started

The St. Louis Host Committee for the National Lesbian and Gay Task Force's Creating Change Conference got together through the efforts of its co-chairs to talk. It is said that the group had a Town Hall meeting to discuss what the needs were for their LGBT community. Out of this talk came the idea of the community center. A committee to create the center was formed and turned into The Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender Community Center of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Non-Profit Status

The organization has a both federal, 501(c)3, and state, Missouri, tax-exemption as a corporation.

Community Outreach

Currently, the organization distributes a monthly newsletter for individuals that subscribe their email address to their website.
