SouthField Studios
SouthField Studios is a proposed film and television production studio to be built in Weymouth, Massachusetts, United States of America, on the site of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station.
The project is being developed by LNR Property Group and Los Angeles-based International Studio Group (ISG).
In February 2008, local Actor and Weymouth resident Chuck Slavin started an online campaign to assist in lobbying for SouthField for $60 million in tax credits, based on the original $300 million project.
In December 2008, an agreement was reached to develop the $100 project, reduced from the original $300 million plan. The facility is to include 11 sound stages, a motion capture stage for visual effects, several backlot exterior locations reproducing Boston streets, production offices and other office space, as well as an adjacent condominium complex, shops, and developments, collectively called 'SouthField'1.
As of December 2008, construction of the studios is planned to begin in August 2009.
Another studio facility, Plymouth Rock Studios is also planned for nearby Plymouth, Massachusetts.
