South London Storm - Season 2009

In 2009 South London Storm will once again compete in the South Division of the Rugby League Conference Premier league.

Events

  • 21 March - Storm opened their season with a narrow defeat, 24-36, to London League newcomers Hammersmith Hill Hoists.
  • 5 April - Visitors Bramley Buffaloes from the Rugby League Conference National Division held Storm to a 16 all draw in the first ever National Express Challenge. Two tries from Mick Walker and one from Matt Burke, Plus Two Pitman conversions ensured that the spoils were shared. Line up: 1. Dave Walters, 2. Lee McCarthy, 3. Luke Higgins, 4. Matt Smith, 5.   • 13 April - The league campaign opens with a comfortable 30 points victory over London Skolars. Donny Varcoe leads the way with a hat-trick of tries in his first game for two years.
  • 25 April - Storm ease to victory over long-standing rivals Elmbridge Eagles, and in so doing notch over fifty points in successive away games for the first time since 2005.
  • 16 May - Storm score a century in a game for the first time ever, breaking a number of club and individual records. The win produced the highest score (102) and equalled the biggest winning margin (90 points), Tom Bold kicked a record 17 goals whilst also equalling a club record 34 points in a game.
  • 6 June - Nearest rivals West London Sharks are beaten 24-8 to extend Storm's lead at the top of the table to four points.
  • 13 June - Australian hooker Luke Bonner establishes a club record as he scores a try for the eighth successive game in the 26-14 win at Ipswich Rhinos.
