Smuggler Films is a production company founded in 2009 by SMUGGLER partners Brian Carmody and Patrick Milling Smith and veteran film and Broadway producer John N. Hart. Smuggler Films produces film, television and theater content.

Background

Prior to Smuggler Films, John Hart produced over 15 critically acclaimed feature films including Boys Don't Cry, You Can Count on Me, and more recently the Sam Mendes directed Revolutionary Road, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Mr. Hart began his entertainment career in New York City as a theater producer. He has produced over 11 Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, including the Nathan Lane-Faith Prince revival of Guys and Dolls, The Who's Tommy, Hamlet with Ralph Fiennes, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Matthew Broderick, Annie Get Your Gun starring Bernadette Peters, and the Tony-Award-winning Broadway revival of Chicago. Mr. Hart's productions have personally garnered him three Tony Awards for Best Production; his shows have won over thirty Tonys in various categories.

Films

Projects in development include Come Like Shadows and The White Tiger, an adaptation of Aravind Adiga's Booker Prize winning novel. The White Tiger will be adapted by screenwriter Hanif Kureishi.

Louis Mellis, who penned Sexy Beast and 44 Inch Chest, is set to write The Princess' Gangster based on the true story of Princess Margaret's affair with gangster John Bindon in the late 1960's.

Theater

Smuggler Films is adapting the film Once for the stage. Once is scheduled to premiere in the 2010 Broadway season and will be produced in association with Frederick Zollo and Barbara Broccoli.

Smuggler Films has also acquired the stage rights to Hollywood legend Robert Evans' memoirs, The Kid Stays in the Picture and it’s sequel, The Fat Lady Sang, which will be published in conjunction with the debut of the play. Award-winning director Sir Richard Eyre is set to direct with Jon Robin Baitz, in place to pen the stage play.

SMUGGLER

SMUGGLER is a commercial production company formed by Brian Carmody and Patrick Milling Smith, and it produces film, TV, commercial and music video content. Smuggler has been awarded ‘Production Company of the Year’ by several leading commercial industry magazines and award shows over the past few years. It also won the 2007 Palme D'Or at the Cannes Advertising Festival. Its branded content television shows for ABC and short independent films have variously won the coveted Cannes Lions Grand Prix and an Emmy.
