SendMe Mobile is a mobile entertainment subscription service that provides trivia, ringtones, wallpapers, games and sweepstakes for cell phones.
SendMe Mobile’s backers include True Ventures, Spark Capital, Amicus, GrandBanks Capital, Vince Broady, the founder of Gamespot.com, and Scott Kurnit, founder of About.com.SendMe Mobile was founded in 2006 by Russell Klein, Markus Mullarkey, and Tom Santosusso. SendMe Mobile is headquartered in the SOMA district of San Francisco, California.
Services
SendMe Mobile users can purchase individual ringtones for $1.99-$3.99, or sign up for the monthly subscription fee of $9.99. Subscription billing is done monthly directly through the cellular carriers. The subscription includes 10 credits, which can be used to access ringtones, wallpapers, games, and texting services for mobile phones.
Content & Distribution
SendMe Mobile’s major licensing deals are with Universal Music, Warner Music, Mobile Streams, Moderati, EMI, IODA, and The Orchard, though SendMe Mobile also works with other companies that provide ringtones to the site. Additionally, cell phone wallpapers are provided by a list of companies that includes Paramount Pictures, Webshots, E! Entertainment, and Collegiate Licensing. Several of the companies that provide mobile games are Sony Pictures, CBS Mobile Games and Iplay.
SendMe Mobile is a member of the Mobile Marketing Association and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau. SendMe Mobile adheres to MMA guidelines, Truste security guidelines, and Tier 1 and Tier 2 Carrier guidelines.
Brand Extensions
In July 2007, SendMe Mobile launched SoLow, a mobile and online sweepstakes site. In October 2007, SendMe acquired mbuzzy, an online mobile community with social media capabilities. In 2007, SoLow was one of the recipients of the Honorable Mention North America award for Best Use of Mobile Marketing, Direct Response and was a finalist for the Best Use of Mobile Marketing, Promotion award from the MMA.
