Sarmathura–Gangapur City railway line
Sarmathura–Gangapur City railway line is a proposed railway line in the state of Rajasthan, India. The project aims to improve rail connectivity in the eastern part of the state by linking Sarmathura with Gangapur City.
History
The railway line has been proposed to improve connectivity in the Karauli region of Rajasthan, which currently lacks direct rail access.
In 2025, approval was granted for the final location survey of the railway line.
On 6 April 2026, the project was declared a Special Railway Project by the Government of India through a Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Railways.
Project details
The proposed railway line is approximately 75–76 km long and is planned via Karauli district.
As per a reply in the Lok Sabha, survey work and preparation of detailed estimates for the project have been taken up.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the line is currently under preparation.
Related developments
The project forms part of the broader Dholpur–Sarmathura–Gangapur City rail corridor.
According to media reports, the route is planned as a broad-gauge railway line to improve passenger and freight connectivity in the region.
