Santuario Sant'Agnello Abate

The idea of erecting a parish largest for the worship of great Sant'Agnello Abate was the parish priest Sac. Andrea Manzo who along with members of the then Circle Sant'Agnello Abate in 1905 decided it was time to make this major project in the pipeline for several years. So this decision is so important, it was decided to conduct the upcoming feast of the patron saint in economics. On 1 January 1906 the pastor and members of the Club learned news that gave the turning point in the construction of the new parish, in fact, the Hawk family decided to sell the land chosen for the construction of the parish and on February 19 the same year bought the land to L.3000. In December of the same year the work on the design of the new parish was entrusted to the engineer Michele Pagano of the nearby town of Nola. With the arrival of the year 1907 everything was ready for the beginning of the work and in fact March 11, 1907 was the date of commencement of work, but there were problems because the soil had a rock ledge, the cut of the rock it was decided that the new parish would have the foundations for only half as the other half rested on the rock. Worship

The cult of the patron saint was born in 1603 when it was built a chapel on the estate in the hamlet S.Agnello square and the first pastor was Don Giulio De Gaetano . Arrival of the Statue

1. September 26, 1904 No. 42

In May 1904 John Margherita Roccarainola but resident in America was employed in a noble and accredited salon when warned of severe pain in his right leg. 1. February 27, 1905 No. 27

1. May 29, 1905 No. 50

• Mr. Agnello Grasso of Cicciano slaughtered an ox suffering from anthrax on Feb. 10, the day after she was seized by chills and high fever and he noticed a scab on his right arm, after a few hours saw the formation of pustules other near the first and arrived as to call a doctor, where he diagnosed a malignant pustule and recommend hospitalization. Sanctuary

The late ' 80s marked a milestone for the parish, in fact, the then parish priest Luigi De Riggi wanted strongly that the parish became Sanctuary . Indeed, on 1 May 1986 after three months of renovation, the parish was reopened for worship of the faithful . The restructuring was curated by the company Giuseppe Amato, while the liturgical furniture was cured by the architect. Sister Michelangela Ballan of Liturgical Apostolate Centre in Milan . The liturgical event was followed by all the associations of the place and the various parish priests from neighboring parishes as well as from civil charges . On 22 November 1986 the bishop Mgr. Giuseppe Costanzo, followed by the parish priests from neighboring parishes and by a crowd of faithful, celebrated the Rite of Dedication and recognizes the church as Gargani SANCTUARY DIOCESAN

The new marble complex included :

• The altar takes up the architectural lines of the apse . is a single block of marble Rosa Zandobbio of 40 tons, The Two curved lines propel the mass at the top to draw an eagle with outstretched wings representing Moses with his arms outstretched in prayer of intercession . At the center of the marble altar it was practiced in a circle within liturgical function where the relics of the saints : Sant'Agnello Abate, St. Paulinus, St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori Dei, Santa Filomena and Sant'Antida Toret
• The ambo trapezoidal line of closed curve carved chin frezzo symbolizes the Word of God that transforms the heart and elevates the soul .
• The stele for the Tabernacle is formed from two interlocking blocks, linked by a network of lines that face together and terminate at the top with the figure of the cup . It is the symbol of the Eucharist that fills the love and unity of believers and bears fruits of good works .
• The lamp is a trapezoidal block with a circular depression in the upper part to the liturgical luminary . Christ is ever-living fire.
• The two Holy water, at the entrance, take up the curved lines of the altar .
• The floor is granite type Juparanà classic Brazilian .

New Framework

In 1996 the painting on the ceiling made by Thomas de Ponto in 1913 due to continuous water seepage was ruined beyond repair due to the detachment of a large part of the plaster . The pastor sac . Pasquale Ferrara and the Association Sant'Agnello to revive the image of the patron saint and protector, they have entrusted the task of reporting on canvas the life of the saint to Antonella Cappuccio internationally renowned artist, so as to allow the faithful of the ages to come to cultivate devotion to Sant'Agnello Abate .

The framework is " THE GLORY OF SANT'AGNELLO " .

Starting from the top we find the figure of God the Father in an attitude of watchful and protective of all Mankind, surrounded by clouds and angels. Immediately below are the Dove of the Holy Spirit who, with his light and invests guide Sant'Agnello, instilling in him the strength and wisdom. To complete the representation of the Holy Trinity we find the image of Christ in the hands of Sant'Agnello. At the center of the picture we find the majestic and beautiful image of the patron saint, which over the centuries has interceded many times with God on behalf of the poor and the sick, getting countless miracles. Even today he is represented standing there in defense of his faithful and ominous against evil. Bottom, left, depicts the mother of the Holy Virgin of the Annunciation while praying for the grace of a child. At the center of the image of the Gulf of Naples remembers the episode where Sant'Agnello scares away the Saracens. On the right, finally, shows the Sanctuary of Gargani, where Sant'Agnello is revered.

In addition to the framework of the Saint they were always painted on canvas and in circular form the four evangelists always places the ceiling .

Our Lady of Fatima

The year 2004 marks the community Gargani an event that will mark the very devotion of the faithful, in fact, in June arrives at the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima pilgrim, the community and the surrounding villages participated all week . Bicentenary

2005 is the bicentennial of the statue of the Holy parish priest sac . Pasquale Ferrara with the Association Sant'Agnello Abbot decided to restore the statue and make a big party

Restoration

The restoration was entrusted to the firm F.D. Restoration of Pompeii which took great pains to bring the statue to his main achievement .

The wooden structure has a total discoloration, due to the numerous pictorial suffered over the years. Some changes were also made to the structure of the work, such as adding gypsum to enlarge eyebrows. Unfortunately, these interventions have gradually changed definitely the team artistic work. The sculpture appeared totally ristuccata. This resulted in the concealment of the original colors, even canceling a fine work of carving this friezes clothes. All parts originally silver leaf, were repainted in purple. Since the preliminary tests, required by Decree Law and the High Surveillance, some details, like the veins present in the temples of the Holy, were brought to light, making immediately guess that the original face hidden, would express a force much different from today. In fact, his face flattened and yellowed, without nuances and bearded monochrome appeared totally different from that which then reveals the original. All previous interventions made had changed gradually every detail of the sculpture, showing so little respect for the work both artistically that the devotional. Very complex was the restoration in its main phase: removing colors not relevant. Performing short essays removal colors added, with mottled solvent type balanced alcohol-ether, and helped by the continued review with filtering Wood, he has managed to get the first original color. The peculiar characteristic of the sculpture is given by the fact that it is on the face than on the left hand was not present the classical preparation of stucco, but the colors were superimposed onto the wood. All colors were added and synthetic oil. Unfortunately, the right hand is detected almost totally rebuilt and there were signs of old burns. The base and the rock above proved coeval. When removing color irrelevant, the solvent effect was neutralized repeatedly with pure turpentine. However it was not enough just to use solvents to remove completely any daub opera, but it was necessary to intervene with mechanical means, such as scalpels and micro-motor, because we had to proceed with the total removal of all the stucco and canvas added in previous surgery. The entire work cleaned each added color bought new light and new beauty. Were recovered almost completely the original ingrown and chiseling of the friezes. It proceeded with the carrying out of microstuccature plaster of Bologna, rabbit glue and phenol. Each pictorial integration was then interested only sketchy areas. For this intervention they were used pigments reversible. All the work has been subjected to treatment with tarlicida Perxil10, whose active ingredient is the permetrinapiperonylbutossido. Parts silver, now totally disappeared, have been integrated with silver leaf and coated with wax. The final protective used consists of microcrystalline wax dissolved in white spirit D40 denatured.

Festivity

In June there was great party to welcome the newly restored statue of the saint and the entire population took part in the festivities. The statue was carried in procession through the village Gargani touching every night a part of the village and making a stop to admire the result where the saint in all its glory.

Sunday Mass was celebrated by Bishop Mons. Beniamino De Palma and participated in the company where restorer explained the various phases of the restoration, the Association Sant'Agnello Abate and the civil and military authorities.
