Richard Demir
Richard Demir is a gynecologic surgeon who is currently Chief of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Tempe, St. Lukes Hospital in Tempe, AZ. He is renowned for his pioneering work in the field of minimally invasive surgery and laparoscopic hysterectomy. Dr. Demir has authored many peer review publications, and is most famous for his work surrounding advancements in laparoscopic hysterectomy and vaginal surgery. In addition to multiple publications in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Demir is a member of The Society of Elite Laparoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Demir received significant media attention when in 2007 he broke the Guinness World Record for the Largest Uterus ever removed, without resorting to laparotomy. He achieved this by performing a hysterectomy laparoscopically (without [...] the patient open) on a patient with a 3200 gram (approx. 7 pound) fibroid uterus. Dr. Demir makes his home and actively practices Obstetrics and Gynecology in Scottsdale, AZ.
