Reer Aw Xasan

Reer Aw-Xasan is an Ashraf community based mostly in the Southern Somalia's Shabelle region as well as in the Hiiraan and along the border between Ethiopia and Somalia.

Some Reer aw Xassan members are also found in parts of Kenya especially Mandera. There are two major sub clans of the Reer aw Xasan: Saa'id and Nur. Saa'id which has the largest number of people, are further divided into two sub-groups: the Reer aw Kheyre and the Reer aw-Xuuriye. Most of Reer aw Kheyre live in the bigger towns in southern Somalia like Afgoye, Qoryooley, Wanleweyn, Kismaayo and some of them live in the capital Mogadishu.

They are mostly farmers, having farms in the rural areas of Afgoye which is exclusive to Reer Aw Kheyre -- for example, Buuxaaw, Shaan, Gal-dheere, Beedle, and Afuufaaley. Reer Aw Xuuriye which is the largest are mostly nomads, they are rich in farming camels they are one of the richest camel farmers in Southern Somalia, they mostly live in the rural areas of Qoryooley and Afgoye. The Nur subclan which is a very small minority clan, live in Ethiopian towns like Buurukur, Ferfer and Abaaley.
