Ramesh K. Pandey
Ramesh K. Pandey (Hindi: रमेश पाण्डेय ) is a member of the Indian Forest Service. He is known for his works in protection, conservation and management of wildlife and natural resources. He is known for the revival and restoration of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, a Project Tiger area under Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (Uttar Pradesh). He was recognised by the WWF-PATA award in 2001 for his outstanding contribution in tiger and wildlife conservation by the WWF-India. He is also known for his works on implementation of Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) specially Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and enforcement against trans-border organised wildlife crime.
Education
Pandey did his Masters in Science and a Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Science (Environmental Pollution and Management) from V.B.S. Purvanchal University of Uttar Pradesh provice of India. After joining the India Forest Service in the year 1996 he underwent Profession Course on Forestry and Wildlife and was awarded an AIGNFA Honours Diploma, equivalent to an M.Sc. Forestry, by Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Dehradun.
Achievements
Pandey secured the Gold Medal for achieving first position in M.Sc. final examination in the year 1992 in V. B. S. Purvanchal University and was honoured by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh province in the year 1993 . He was honoured by His Excellency Vice President of India with Ten Awards and prizes after completing IFS Profession Course (1996–99) with 'Honours AIGNFA Diploma' including Government of India's Gold Medal for all round outstanding performance award. He got the Best all round forester award, Topper in Core Forestry Subject award and P. Srinivas Memorial Prize conferred by Government of India in the IFS Professional course. He was awarded with other six Doner's Prizes by the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Government of India, including Hill Memorial Prize, D.C. Agrawal Prize, E.P. Gee Prize, K.P. Sagariya Award, Senior Foresters Award and Dr Barin Ganguli Award for academic excellence in various fields. He was also honoured by the State Government of Uttar Pradesh for his contribution in 'Forest Protection and Wildlife Conservation' in the year 2001 and 2002 consecutively. He received WWF-PATA Tiger conservation award-2001 for outstanding performance in Tiger and wildlife conservation.
During CITES CoP-15 at Doha (Qatar), he received Clark R Bavin Enforcement Award-2010 1 2 for Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India.
Career
Pandey has worked in the areas of conservation, protection and management of wildlife and natural resources in biodiversity rich landscapes (Pilibhit-Dudhwa-Katerniaghat), and is known for prevention of wildlife crimes in Northern India. Pandey's success in reviving and restoring the Katerniaghat and drawing attention to the tigers of Pilibhit was recognized in Rajya Sabha and led to calls for more attention to tiger conservation in India. He also worked extensively on Gharial conservation in river Girwa particularly in facilitating the natural breeding of gharials. His work in combating Wildlife Crimes was connected with enforcement agencies and implementation of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora(CITES) in the country, including cross-border implementation efforts. Mr Pandey is presently working as Joint Development Commissioner in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India.
