Qi Zhenhong
Qi Zhenhong (; born September 1965) is a Chinese diplomat, economist, and member of the Chinese Communist Party. He served as Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka from 2020 to 2026 and previously served as Ambassador of China to Bahrain and president of the China Institute of International Studies.
Biography
Qi began his career at the Beijing Service Bureau for Diplomatic Missions, where he served as an assistant economist, economist, and deputy director of the Business Audit Office between 1988 and 1996. From 1996 to 1997, Qi served as a second secretary at the Chinese representation to the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group. He subsequently served as a second secretary at the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from 1997 to 1998.
Qi worked in the Policy Research Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China from 1998 to 2004, successively serving as a second secretary, deputy division chief, and division chief. From 2004 to 2009, he continued his work in the ministry's Department of Policy Research, serving as a division chief and counsellor. From 2009 to 2012, Qi served as a counsellor and subsequently as deputy director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Policy Planning Department. He was appointed deputy director of the ministry's General Office in 2012 and held the position until 2014.
Qi served as Ambassador of China to Bahrain from April 2015 to December 2017. In December 2017, he became president of the China Institute of International Studies, serving until 2020. In December 2018, Qi was appointed as a specially invited supervisor of the National Supervisory Commission, with a term lasting until March 2023.
In October 2020, Qi was appointed Ambassador of China to Sri Lanka. His appointment was formally approved by Xi Jinping, acting in accordance with a decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, in November 2020. He served in Sri Lanka until August 2026, when he was removed from the position.
