Pro1000 Series
The Pro1000 Series, or Pro1000 for short, is an upcoming motorsport series. It will be known as the Rightfuel Pro1000 Racing Series for sponsorship reasons. The Managing Director of the series is Nigel Rees. The series will be using the Caparo T1000 which is still at the prototype stage. The T1000 will be a modified version of the Caparo T1; the design of two engineers from the former McLaren F1 programme.
Series History
The series was first presented to the press as an idea in July 2008. The Pro1000 first proper test was on July 1, 2009 at the Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit. Drivers present at the test included Duncan Tappy, Richard Keen and Autosport magazine's Ben Anderson. The official series test driver is Duncan Tappy.
2010 season
The race format will consist of a 50-minute practice session, two 20-minute heat races and a 30-minute final. There is also scheduled to be an amateur series with a 30-minute practice session and a 30-minute race. The amateur series will have two rounds in the UK and two at international venues. The 2010 series cars will be run by Triple 8 Race Engineering.
Drivers
There will be 16 professional drivers and 16 amateur drivers competing. They are expected to come from series such as Formula Renault, Formula Three, touring cars, sports car and GT racing. The 16 amateurs will be experienced GT and sports car drivers, and also drivers in Historic Formula One Championship, Group C and CanAm cars.
