E-Team Squadra Corse

The E-Team Squadra Corse is the Formula SAE racing team at the Università di Pisa, Italy.

History

2008 E-Team Squadra Corse

Founded in the late 2007 the team today comprises more than 40 members. Università di Pisa competed for the first time in Formula SAE in 2008. Usually rookie Formula SAE teams compete only with a project in the first seasons. The following years they build and compete with the car. E-Team, with a limited budget and starting from scratch, was able to race at the Italian Formula SAE event in Fiorano after only 9 months of intense work. The E-Team was first among the rookies, third over 11 Italian teams at the endurance race. The endurance race was particularly selective so that was completed by only 14 teams over 34 inscribed teams.

"In my knowledge it’s the first time a rookie team finishes the endurance test", said Andrea Toso, head of Dallara R&D, "a very good result" added Luca Marmorini, former member of the Toyota Formula One team.

Mission

E-Team is a multidisciplinary and dynamic environment where Bachelor, Master and PhD students from mechanical, automotive, electronic, electrical, aerospace, management engineering, economics and liberal arts work together. In the E-Team’s vision the Formula SAE is a proof of concept and a bridge to the job market. In addition, it is a chance to find innovative solutions that may improve racing performance as well as daily driving experience.

Cars

ET1

ET1 is the first racing car designed and manufactured by the E-Team Squadra Corse. After a very intensive 9-month gestation period, the ET1 was ready to compete at the Formula SAE 2008 event in the Ferrari circuit of Fiorano and achieved the first season goal: the reliability. The ET1 is a single-seater 4-wheel car provided with the 2-cylinder 4-stroke Aprilia RX 550 engine. ET1 was equipped with an innovative voice-coil-actuated semi-automatic gearshift, which was thus completely electrically actuated. The first E-Team car adopted a tubular space frame and fiber glass bodywork, unequal length double wishbone suspensions and 13” wheels.

ET2ev

ET2ev is a tribute to Prof. Emilio Vitale, the strongest supporter of E-Team Squadra Corse and the man who made this happen. ET2ev is the car for the 2009 season. It will be unveiled in June and will debut at the Hockenheimring.
