Peter Shone

Peter Shone is a political activist best known for his important contribution to the creation and general operations of the Loughborough based Storer and Ashby Road Residents Group. He was born in Crewe, Cheshire on July 20th 1946 and currently resides in the Ashby Road area of Loughborough, from where he gained the experience of local life and fellow residents central to the creation of the Storer and Ashby Road Residents Group.

Career

Peter Shone spent many years working for HM Revenue and Customs, carving out a successful career as a tax inspector. Much of his working life was spent at the Nottingham and Derby Tax Office at Howard House, central Nottingham. However his working life was cut short due to the onset of work-related stress[, and he was forced into early retirement at the age of 45.

Storer and Ashby Road Residents Group

Upon retirement, Peter found that more time was being spent in the Ashby and Storer Road area and gained personal knowledge of the area's residents. It became apparent that the wellbeing of such residents was unsupported, and The Plight of the residents in the face of growing social pressures seemed unclear. With the help of various associates including the group co-founder Hilda Puttick, Peter founded the Storer and Ashby Road Residents Group, now recognised as one of the leading resident and local issue support groups in the UK. The Storer and Ashby Road Residents Group (SARG)is based on volunteer input, and operates via regular meetings, resident and council liaison, and ACTIVE monitoring of the area. Notable achievements of SARG include the successful campaign to ban large scale binge drinking, and the successful negotiation to maintain waste disposal efficiency, a project of which Peter was leader.

Personal life

Peter has remained unmarried, citing work and SARG commitments for his prolonged bachelorhood. Peter is an avid betting enthusiast, and well known amongst Loughborough's bookmakers, notably Ladbrokes. Peter has cited current Leicester City Football Club scout Garth Butler as his closest friend. Throughout his life, Peter has been a key sports fan, notably soccer, for which Peter splits his loyalties between Nottingham Forest (Peter was present at the final of the 1979 European Cup final in Madrid, which saw a Nottingham Forest victory), Leicester City and Liverpool FC football clubs. Peter once reached Division 9 in the men's doubles section of the Nottingham Lawn Tennis Association Leagues.
