Our Green Book is a magazine/reference guide series that helps users find a business or organization that offers green (environmentally conscious and socially responsible) products or services in a specific metropolitan area. The series began in 2009 with an EDition that only focused on New York City green industry. Published annually by AVI Publishing, INC., Our Green Book's 2010 release (scheduled to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, April 22) will include editions not only for New York but for San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles as well.

The publication incorporates the elements of a directory with the glossy features of a magazine such as feature articles promoting a green lifestyle, that is, a way of living that takes into account one's impact on the environment. Our Green Book serves not only as a reference tool for locals but also as a guide for eco-conscious tourists unfamiliar with the city in which they are visiting.

History
Our Green Book was the brainchild of Abraham Slavin, CEO of AVI Publishing, INC., an independent publishing company based in New York that was launched in 2006. Past publications include Israel's 60th: Past, Present and Future, a magazine published in collaboration with the Consulate General of Israel in New York that commemorated Israel's 60th year of independence. AVI Publishing, INC. is currently a subsidiary of AVI Media Group, a full-service marketing firm which offers web design, graphic design, public relations, promotional and branding campaigns, and editorial services. The 2009 edition features information AbOUT over 100 green businesses and nonprofits and is 68 pages long; the 2010 edition will have about 100 pages.

Business Model
Mr. Slavin employed a business model for Our Green Book that drastically differentiates it from its competitors. For example, other green guides allow green businesses and organizations to place their listings in their publication for free and then sell copies of the guide to the public for a moderate fee. Our Green Book charges businesses to display advertisements and listings but gives copies to the public for free, maximizing its readership.

Website
The official website for Our Green Book, www.ourgreenbook.com, was launched soon after the release of the publication's 2009 edition. The website employs new and innovate technology to offer a digital version of Our Green Book. The software, Quad/Graphics Digital Edition, runs on Flash and allows users to "turn" the pages, zoom in on any page, search the publication via keyword, and even write notes as well as tag pages to different social networking sites. Web addresses as well as entire sections of a page can be hot-linked to corresponding web sites and e-mail addresses, one of many dynamic features impossible to duplicate on paper.
