On Shoulders of Giants

On Shoulders of Giants is an Israeli experimental pop trio featuring the lead singer from Betzefer, Avital Tamir. For the English metaphor attributed to Bernard of Chartres, see Standing On The Shoulders of Giants.

History

On Shoulders of Giants evolved in late 2006 when Idan Epshtein and Avital Tamir joined forces to create an experimental acoustic pop group. Their search for the perfect fusion of their background in the punk/metal world with a sweeter, but palatable raw edge led them to Katie Danielson, an aspiring young singer and multi-instrumentalist living in Jerusalem. The creative connection between the three was immediate, and they quickly began collaborating on songs that would reflect their unique and unexpected chemistry. Within months, On Shoulders of Giants developed a distinctive sound and songwriting style - highly listenable, emotive and dramatic, yet often darkly colored in cryptic musicianship.

The band then started demoing songs for their debut album, with all the material already written. Recording sessions were held in the band members' home studios over an entire year; the goal being to allow time to explore the MusicAL BOUNDARIES and possibilities for each song as it emerged. Mixing duties were then given to Liron Schaffer of Zaza Studios, Tel Aviv. Mastering was done in NYC by Michael Fossenkemper of Turtlesound Studios.

Come Crashing was produced, recorded and released on September 17, 2009 independently and is available through the band's official website and Amazon.com The same month, vocalist Katie Danielson started performing live vocals with Useless ID vocalist Yotam Ben-Horin on his solo acoustic club shows. She is also set to contribute vocals to his upcoming solo album.

The band has cited several artists as being influential for them, including among others Jeff Buckley, Tears for Fears, Portishead, Shara Worden, Tom Waits, Antony and the Johnsons, Justin Timberlake, Björk, Radiohead, Beck and Gomez.
