Officially Mushbox is a "complete system for growing gourmet mushrooms at home". Due to the nature of the kit, some users use spores to grow illegal psychoactive mushrooms (commonly known as magic mushrooms). It is sometimes even sold with the spore of illegal mushrooms in the United Kingdom. This in itself is legal as the spores do not contain psilocybin, the active compound. The creator and owner of Mushbox discourages use of his creation for these purposes in countries in which cultivation of psychoactive mushrooms is illegal.
