More4nrg
MORE4NRG is a 1.2 million Euros Project, co-financed by the European Union, with the aim to reduce the fossil fuel’s use, by trying to progressively replace them with cleaner energy sources, such as the solar or wind energies. MORE4NRG is an INTERREG IVC project with the objective to toughen the delivery of regional strategies for renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, using an exchange of best practices on sustainable energy policies and jointly developing an integrated monitoring tool for evaluating the effect of regional sustainable energy strategies.
This project started the 21st of September 2008, with a duration of 36 months, and has been carried out with 12 partners from all over Europe: 11 regions and the Assembly of European Regions (AER). The partnership includes regions with more and less advanced strategies and action plans, with great varieties in approach and extent to which they have set specific targets.
Objectives of the project
The main objectives targeted by MORE4NRG project are the following:
- To analyze good practice in energy targets and of tools for evaluating energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy sources in the participant regions.
- To study the framework conditions necessary for the generation of development of and investment in regional renewable energy infrastructures.
- To support the regions from the partnership that are less advanced, in order to define or improve their energy targets, as part of their sustainable energy strategies.
- To develop an integrated monitoring tool, so that the regions could observe their progress in accomplish their energy targets.
- To spread the experiences and tools collected and developed to other European regions in support of their sustainable energy strategies.
- To encourage other European regions to establish sustainable energy targets and involve themselves into the AER/FEDARENE declaration ‘European regions for energy efficiency and renewable energy sources’.
Expected results
Being based on combined experience guarantees it will be applicable to Europe-wide regions. The involvement of the AER will greatly benefit the project as a platform where and from which to inform and to disseminate to other EU regions.
In order to reduce the effects of climate change and prepare for the decline of the oil-age, European regions have an essential role to play in promoting, developing and implementing renewable energy sources merged with efficient energy strategies to help working out the energy impasse.
This project expects to raise the clean energies' contribution at the global energetic evaluation up to 20% in 2020, as well as to reduce the energy consumption with 20%.
Project partners
The interregional exchange of experience allows all of the regions to ameliorate their sustainable energy strategies. It will help the less advanced regions to accelerate their development. The partners will gather together their experiences in a toolkit for regional energy strategies that includes tools for measuring progress in achieving sustainable energy targets.
