Mind Opener
Mind Opener is a news magazine. Launched in 2005, it was the first magazine to focus on African youth education, politics, economics and contains market news, entertainment and feature articles.
Objectives of the Magazine
As intended by the founder,. the main mission of Mind Opener is to emphasize the multidimensionality of African culture, business, fashion, entertainment, artistry, and other forms of self-expression. The Magazine targets non-Africans and African alike whose impression and knowledge AbOUT Africa and Africans is solely gathered from stereotypical opinions of most western mainstream media. Mind Opener Magazine therefore attempts to showcase the aspirations, successes and concerns of Africa and Africans in Diaspora.
History
Mind Opener magazine was started in 2005 by Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret, who was then the president of African Students' Association in Sarawak and currently the Coordinator of Codewit Global network, who saw the need to enrich the public with Africa’s enormous blessings and challenges through features stories and profiles emphasizing Africa’s successes and strengths in countering the weaknesses of the media.
Mind Opener Magazine is edited by Michael Temitope Olanrewaju, Jessica, Jarrell, Segun Onabanjo, Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret, Anthony K. Jim-Fugar and Osasumwen Eghaghe.
With contributions from African and international journalists, in-the-field writers reporting from every region, as well as renowned specialists on the continent’s politics, economy, industry and governance, The Mind Opener Magazine guarantees in-depth, on-the-ground reportage relied upon by decision-makers and investors active in Africa. The editorial stance offers fresh perspective on subjects that influence the way the world engages with the continent.
The first edition of the magazine was launched in the presence of Dignitaries like Sarawak D.prime minister Y.B Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. George Chan Hong Nam, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Industrial development and Minister of Modernization of Agriculture Sarawak, He was flanked by His excellency Dr. Wahab Dosumu, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Malaysia, William Tan, the managing director of INTI University Sarawak and Onwutalobi Anthony-Claret the Chairman of the occasion during the first African convention 2005 event held in Maryek Hall INTI College Sarawak Malaysia. Chan congratulated the effort of the Chairman and her members for the launching of the inaugural edition of Mind opener, the official magazine for the African students Convention 2005.
