Mark Salvatus

Mark Salvatus (born 22 January 1980) is a Filipino contemporary artist living and working in Manila & Lucban, Philippines.His works deals with familiar objects, chance encounters and everyday politics that cross various media from drawings, installations, photography, video, street art to interactive and participatory projects. His works are heavily influenced by the urban landscape, internet, advertising and popular culture creating his own narratives and interpretations.

Education

Graduated Cum Laude at the University of Santo Tomas College of Fine Arts and Design, Manila with a degree in Advertising Arts (2003) and awarded Benavidez Outstanding Student Achievement Award in the same year.

Recognitions

Recipient of the Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (2012); Sovereign-Schoeni Art Prize, Hong Kong; Ateneo Art Award (2010) and nominated for the Signature Art Prize 2011 –Singapore Art Museum. His illustrated book Mama's House, Papa's House was awarded Alcala Illustrator's Prize given by Philippine Board for Books for the Young-PBBY(2004) and National Book Award for The Cat Painter given by Manila Critics Circle (2006)

Projects

Co-founded Pilipinas Street Plan in 2006, a community of street artists based in Manila and in 2012 he co-founded and is co-directing 98B COLLABoratory, a multi-disciplinary site for creative sharing, discussion and collaboration located in Escolta, Manila.
