Marcus Sims
Marcus Anthony Sims is a Smooth Jazz announcer, community activist and a spoken word artist. He it is currently employed at WJAB 90.9FM in Huntsville Alabama,a graduate of Alabama A&M and a member of the Art N Soul Society of Expression
Early life Sims was born in Germany to a father serving in the army. He is the third child to Carol and Frank Sims, now divorced.Marcus had two brothers, both whom died. many of his family members have attended Alabama A&M University He spent numerous years involved in organizational work and anchoring various community service projects (member:Pan Afrikan Alliance of Alabama A&M)
In 1999 Marcus started work at WJAB 90.9FM on the campus of Alabama A&M. Marcus hosts Five shows on WJAb. Afternoon Expressions ( smooth jazz), The Locker Room (sports),Global Grooves (world music), The Poetry Corner and the Roots Box(reggae)Marcus' approach to music has included smooth jazz, neo soul and acid jazz.
In 2000 Marcus and Pan Afrikan Alliance started the "Irie Celebration" which is a local recognition of the life of reggae star Bob Marley.This is a free community event. It is currently in its tenth year has been endorsed by The Marley family
In 2006, Marcus joined The Legendary ArtNSoul Society of Expression. Several of the groups members are published authors have have spoken word cds. Marcus often considered himself a supporter but recently in 2008 emerged as a spoken word favorite
In 2006 Marcus started the radio program called The Poetry Corner which features local national and international poets. Previous guests have included Nikki Giovanni, Saul Williams, Marc Lacy and many others.
