LMTSOM is the management school of Thapar University. It provides special MBA courses in synergy with technical education. It is named after Late Shri.Lalit Mohan Thapar.

AbOUT the School

The L.M.Thapar School of Management is the epitome of a new thought taking shape in parlance of management that combines multiple economic and social models with technology as a back bone to create techno-managers. The University opens its door to qualified youngsters who aspire to become success index of future managerial breed to join the MBA program of this University, which provides higher quality technical education in this part of the country. LMT School of Management is based on the foundation of The 50 years of service rendered through the offerings of a very high level of technical education by TU, Patiala.

The school thus visualizes that, in not so distant future, management will have to talk with technology more intimately and hence this stride in blending the technology with management education. This will create a new breed of Managers who are well equipped with knowledge to face the stark realities of business uncertainty and yet create value out of this techno economic turmoil of 21st Century.

Programs

The School offers following three unique programs:

  • MBA (ENERGY) - A two year post graduate program leading to master of business administration (energy) for engineering graduates in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering only.
  • MBA (IT – NET) – A two year post graduate program leading to master of business administration (it – networking) for all engineering graduate.
  • MBA(MFG) – A two year post graduate program leading to master of business administration (manufacturing) for all engineering graduate.

Students with B.Sc./M.Sc. background may also enroll in above courses after doing a one year bridge course (at TIET).

Life at LMTSOM, Thapar University

The USP of LMTSOM, is the degree to which freedom is given to the students to excel in any field they like. The most pronounced aspect of education at Thapar University is the extensive participation of its students in extracurricular activities. These are carried out by various societies headed by one member of the faculty. BASE (Business Acumen in Students of Engineering) society, comprising of mostly LMTSOM students, frequently organizes business events and even publishes a biannual magazine. MUDRA (Music and Dramatics Society) conducts its cultural nite and an inter-year cultural competition IZHAAR. LITSOC (Literary Society) is another popular society which conducts the annual inter-hostel literary festival ACUMEN. Other societies include ACID, CCS, SAE. etc and various departmental socities. The institute also has its own literary-cultural festival by the name Saturnalia held every year in March, along with a technical one ARANAYA, normally held in October-November each year. This extravaganza features large participation from prestigious institutes from all over India. The students publish their own magazines, AVANT GARDE, which represents the views of the students along with addressing issues of the youth and nation, and ECLECTIZA (the urge to know..), which emphasizes on the latest advancements and applications in the field of science, thus catering to the thirst of all the techies in the institute.

Other Activities

Extra curricular activities, involving Management and Techno-Management events, is a regular feature of the school. Some of the recent events held are:

  • Management Development program (MDP) on foreign trade management and WTO organized by IIFT (New Delhi) in collaboration with Thapar University.
  • Six Sigma Certification course in collaboration with NITIE, Mumbai.
  • A one year French Language course by Ms.Marie-Laurie Graperron from France.
  • B-Plan Competition organized by Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (STEP) and BASE society.
  • A Workshop on IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) was organized by STEP.
  • L.M.Thapar School of Management in collaboration with IIT Roorkee organized a lecture by Professor Deshmukh.
