Coaching career

Ross began his coaching career in the Dundee United academy. He was later promoted to individual development coach analyst, combining coaching and analysis work across several age groups. He subsequently became the club's head of technical performance.

In 2023, Ross joined Swansea City, where he spent around 18 months as an assistant coach and analyst. He worked with Swansea's under-21 team.

Ross later joined Rangers as a professional development phase coach, working with the club's under-19 and B teams. He was described by Rangers as an under-19 assistant coach during the 2025–26 season. He also assisted the Scotland under-21 team during their European Championship qualifying campaign.

While at Rangers, Ross was one of nine coaches selected for the Scottish Football Association's inaugural Elite Coaches Development Programme. The 12-month programme concluded in October 2025.

Ross joined Southampton as an individual development coach in early 2026. In July 2026, Heart of Midlothian appointed him as set plays coach in Wouter Vrancken's first-team staff. He succeeded Ross Grant, who had left Hearts for Celtic, and was given responsibility for attacking and defensive set pieces.
