Larry Richert
Larry Richert (born c. 1960 in Millvale, Pennsylvania) is an American journalist.
Education and career
Born in the Pittsburgh suburb of Millvale, Pennsylvania, Richert graduated from North Allegheny High School and Clarion University.
He joined KDKA-TV in November 1988 to host "Wake Up with Larry Richert," a half-hour morning show that aired on KDKA-TV from 6:30 to 7 a.m.
In June 1990, the station reformatted its morning program to be more newscast-like. Richert offered forecasts, read sports stories and conducted InterViews alongside John Shumway, who handled news stories at the anchor desk. Richert was on the morning show for four years before moving to KDKA's "Live at 5" program. In July 1995, he moved to a new position, providing weather forecasts for KDKA's 5, 6 and 11 p.m. news broadcast.
He currently hosts the morning news on the sister radio station KDKA-AM, since late in 2001. The Big-K morning show hosted by Richert can be heard weekdays in the Pittsburgh metro-area from 5:30am until 10am on 1020AM and 100.1 FM KDKA, on the Audacy App, or livestreamed with video via Youtube. He has narrated Pittsburgh Steelers highlight films for NFL Films and is the current PA announcer at Acrisure Stadium and Petersen Events Center.
He co-wrote a movie screenplay with friend John Mowod, Amazing Racer. Principal photography began in 2008, with an estimated production budget of $8.5 million. The film bypassed a commercial theatrical release entirely, resulting in no box office earnings, and was released via home media and digital video on demand (VOD) in 2013. The movie's cast included Julianne Michelle, Claire Forlani, and Michael Madsen. The movie's primary production studio and international distributor, Supernova Media, was wholly owned, operated, and controlled by Michelle alongside her parents, Joycelyn Engle and Joseph A. Di Palma.
