Kuki Linux

Kuki Linux (pronounced "cookie") is a lightweight Ubuntu-based Linux distribution built to be a replacement for the Linpus Linux Lite distribution on the Acer Aspire One. Kuki's goals include working out of the box, fast boot time, low usage of SSD/HDD space, and inclusion of lightweight and functional programs for most daily tasks.

Kuki has several patches and fixes optimized for the Aspire One hardware, and the Kuki Linux kernel includes only the packages required for the Acer Aspire One. Kuki uses the Xfce window manager.

Kuki Linux is available for download in the form of ISO images, which can be used to create Live CDs or Live USBs. The latter can be created using UNetbootin.

History and development

João Ferro founded the project.

The first alpha was released on October 22, 2008.

Kuki 2.0 Alpha was available in January 2009. A mention in the DistroWatch newsletter produced enough interest to crash the Kuki website.

Kuki 3.0 uses the term "pre-release" instead of "release candidate" because it was based on an (at the time) unstable release of Ubuntu to get the latest features for compatability with the Aspire One.

Version names are alliterative, like Ubuntu, but use the names of cookies. Version 3.0 is Crispy Cantuccini.
