Kazi I. Huque
Kazi I. Huque works at Intel Corporation and is known as the founding CEO of Grameen Intel Social Business Ltd. He established the company in partnership with Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus and with funding from Intel's venture capital division.
This venture was one of the first of its kind using venture capital to focus on software solutions to address poverty related issues. The software developed by the company focuses on information technology needs in the areas of agriculture, healthcare and education. The company today is a joint venture between Intel and Grameen.
Early Life
Kazi I. Huque is a Bangladeshi born American. He received his Bachelors in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Rochester in New York. He worked as a Software Engineer at HDI, a Software company now part of Accelrys, and EDS, an IT services company now a division of HP, before going to the Simon School at the University of Rochester for his MBA. After graduating, he joined Intel Corporation in finance.
Grameen Intel
Grameen Intel develops software that run on low cost tablets and mobile devices. Their focus is on positively impacting social problems such as low agriculture output, lack of pre-natal care or early learning.
The company is currently deploying agriculture information services nationwide in Bangladesh where 55% of the 160 million population rely on agriculture for their livelihood. This will help the agriculture communities PReVENT excessive use of chemical and fertilizers and help increase food output. In a country where the vast majority are marginal farmers this information is critical for their livelihood and income generation. The software is currently accessible on tablets or laptops and is expanding to use on any phone. Grameen Intel also has projects in India, Nepal, Cambodia, and Macedonia.
