John Kennedy College is a high school found in Beau Bassin in Mauritius. Founded in 1964 and inaugurated by the then Governor General Sir John Shaw Rennie, it has proved to be one of the most prestigious colleges in Mauritius. It was founded in 1964, bearing the name of the famous American president John F. Kennedy. Since its foundation, it has encountered many alterations in both the material and pedagogical system.

It has over the years produced a number of high calibre students of whom many were laureates, eminent politicians and professionals in Mauritius. Students from John Kennedy College have eventually gained places in prestigious and world renowned universities for example: University of Cambridge, London School of Economics, University College London, Stanford University, University of Manchester etc...

The college usually ranks itself 4th on the island for boys and it is the 3rd most sought state secondary school for boys.


The main strengths of John Kennedy College are the Sciences, Technical Subjects and Economics. John Kennedy College was initially more technically oriented, basically due to the fact that when the school was built it had state of the art workshops and equipments. Nonetheless over the years the school also made its name in the field of science by producing laureats and students ranked just after. Presently John Kennedy College is considered to have the one of best secondary college laboratories for Physics and Chemistry in Mauritius.

John Kennedy College students are also known as Kennedians. The college has also been the cradle of rebellion in Mauritius and saw the emergence of a new mindset which would push the country forward from the early seventies until the late eighties.Manohur Poonyth
