Jim Sells

James "Jim" Sells is the Mayor of the Town of Rogersville, Tennessee. Though the office of Mayor is non-partisan, like the majority of Rogersvillians, Sells is a Republican.

Heritage-drvien economic development

As mayor of Rogersville, Sells has been an ACTIVE promoter of Rogersville's extensive historical legacy in increasing the town's econmic development, particularly through initiatives that have been spearheaded by the Rogersville/Hawkins County Chamber of Commerce and the Rogersville Heritage Association. In his most recent election, Sells was challenged by former Vice Mayor Dr. Blaine Jones, a local physician whose platform largely opposed Sells' active collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce to bring Tennessee Main Street certification to the town's downtown Historic District.

Since Sells' reelection in 2005, Rogersville has seen the implementation of a multi-phase infrastructure improvement plan that has included: extension of sidewalks from the western shopping district centered on Tennessee Highway 66 through The Downtown historic district to the eastern shopping district centered around the East Main-Park Boulevard corridor. The plan has also seen the complete renovation of the downtown historic district's "heritage lights," adding more and taller lights, installing bricked sidewalks, and installing durable and uniform street furniture, including balustrades, benches, refuse containers, and flower holders.
